Cloud is not a nerd , he far from it like it already been said hes lonely type person that cares a lot about his friends that he calls "family ".
He the " Lonely Hero " type that want to do everything on its own.

ive never heard of him described as a nerd, in fact thats the last thing i would think of cloud as. he says some corny things from time to time, but in no way is he a nerd.

Lol. I've never heard such a thing before. Nerd? Haha, please. This is as bad as when people started describing him as emo. Cloud is neither. He is not a geek either - just in case someone out there decides to classify him as one as well. 
People should stop making things up. They're looking far too much in depth than what the game actually is. Sure, the game is complex and so is Cloud...but not THAT complex.

Clouds not a nerd. Nerds are stereotypically, Weak, Dorky, and into Computers. and Clouds none of those. He may be a loner but he's not a creepy one.
As for Emo. I wouldn't go as far as calling him emo - Does he look like he slits his wrists? - but Depressed? Yes.
Think about it. He thinks he's going to die, he has an uncurable disease in him, and isolates himself from everyone, and he also feels extremely guilty about Aeriths death too. Thats bound to make anyone Depressed.
As for his change from the game to AC i think in the game he didn't have the time to dwell upon Aeriths death, but after they defeated Sephiroth and saved the world he had all the time in the world to think about it, and decided that it was his fault she died.

I don't even think that guy (le author) knows what nerd really means, unless it's referring to some kind of code name or something.
How can Cloud be a nerd? He didn't even support his facts that much with details, and it seems to me that he was just talking crap, i.e. he was typing while blindfolded or something.

The only reason people label Cloud as a "nerd" is because he's the most talked about, favorited character in the whole series. His fanbase practically runs over every other FF character, and people think that he's overrated because Cloud's fanbase practically makes every other character in the series seem minuscule or worthless.
There are certain aspects about Cloud that I do and don't like at the same time. But I think that his character completes the story with absolute precision.
