No I can't see real-time battle systems working with RPGs either.
They wouldn't change the battle system anyway since I imagine that there would be a fair bit of backlash towards such a decision and wouldn't be well accepted, the people directly above show this.

I personally like being able to control all aspects of battle, and, although ffxii and KH and all those RPGs are unbelievably fun, I don't think I'd like that system in FFVII, only because it would be such a deviation from the original.

In my opinion i dont think they will remake FF7 and like everyone says, if they did they wuld most probably change parts which would make the hardcore fans and players very very angry, me included!!
I had my own version of the characters in my head from the in-game graphics and the videos and drawings on the menu! so when i saw that ff7 Tech Demo i was almost drooling and Advent Children dont even start (mild coronary). But the graphics wear off and i think no matter how much they spruce up the graphics and remake it, it still aint the same thing and wont have that feel you remember, or the nostalgia!
So my point is if they make it good on them id buy it probably play it and then go back to the old game where painstakingly drawn 2D backgrounds rule! no need to worry everything to do with FF7 is usually kick ass!

XD I just hope they do the graphics right, and keep the same voice actors as from the movie to the game. That would make the game so awesome it would be bliss just looking at the opening scene.

To be honest I don't think that Square will remake it for PS3 but it would be a brilliant business move and I would push myself to buy a PS3 simply to play the game but I just don't think that they'll do it
