FF7 - over-rated or under-rated? - Page 2

FFVII will never be under-rated. Regardless of some of the negative comments it gets from various people, there's more people that love it, so just cause it has some people that don't care for it, doesn't mean it's under-rated.

Now, when talking about fanboys, and people who have negative comments towards VII, things can be a little different from person to person, and there are certain people who dislike VII that I have no respect for, because they dislike it for the wrong reasons which are:

1.) "It's too popular. People talk about it too much, I'm sick of hearing about it"

2.) The person likes another FF more, and thinks that particular FF should get more praise than VII, so they purposely start nitpicking at VII fans and VII itself to make themselves feel better.

3.) "The graphics look really weird, and I couldn't play it" - Never talk to someone who says anything remotely close to this again.

The one and only reason someone can say something negative about VII and still be taken seriously from me is a simple one. You've played VII, and you just truly don't like it. You gave it a chance, you tried, and you just don't care for it, based on VII itself, without judging fanboys, popularity, etc..

So anyway, does it really matter? Someone obviously loves VII out there xD Otherwise it wouldn't get so much attention paid to it. That's why when I hear any negative comments anyway I just don't care. I love it, and that's all that matters. Under-rated? Never.

Nice post. My cousin said he prefers FF8 to FF7 because of graphics and i couldn't get through to him that FF7 is a better game, the storyline and gameplay is better. But i think he just likes better graphical games. That being said, FF7 had fantastic graphics in it's day and the CGI was top notch. Even now the graphics look nice enough to play, but i'd love a release of Final Fantasy, just with the graphics bumped up. It'd be beautiful whilst retaining the type of gameplay that X and X-2 didn't deliver.

Kentaro had it right on the money, this game is overrated completely.

Pretty much the whole fanbase of the entire FFVII Compilation depends on the fanboys/fangirls of Sephiroth and Cloud. Then CloudxTifa/CloudxAerith. If those people didn't exist, then this games success would have been minimal. How can this game be underrated? Every FF forum or video game forum, or website (whatever), you see people bowing down to the 'greatness' known as FFVII (but I refer to it as a mediocre game with little to offer).

Overrated, for sure.

IMO its over rated. As comparing it to Zelda, I dont see how people can because they are 2 completely different genres. 7 is over rated to me because its just been milked so much and everyone sees it as the best Final Fantasy of all time. Fair enough, think that, but IMO its isnt the best FF and it isnt the best game overall.

I would say that the game is both under-rated and over-rated at times.. FFVII was like a huge breakthrough, and even though it is an older game it is still very popular and gets a lot of publicity. It's the first Final Fantasy game to have a movie made out of it, and it's got the most sequels

Under-Appreciated.

I agree that the game gets a lot of fanboys that just whore over one character... and that does get very old. In that way, each character is typically over-rated... but not to everyone. It's usually just one character for one person. But I say it's under-rated as a whole because most people don't take the time to understand it's plot and depth in the way that it should be understood. It's very very rare to find someone who has a great understanding of the details of the characters and plot. Most people just whore over a single character and that doesn't do a service to the game. It just detracts from the overall package.

Eh, Final Fantasy VII is probably a bit overrated. Make no mistake--the game is very good--but it isn't overwhelmingly amazing. It gets extra attention with it being the first Final Fantasy game to grace the more modern consoles.

There's absolutely no way that game is underrated.
