I think square enix have already showed people that not everything they make is gold. They did that with ease

I definitely want a remake. I would love to see the story fleshed out more, with orchestrated music, with better cutscenes.
I can't begin to imagine what some parts of the game would look like on the PS3. Bahamut Zero, or Knights of the Round anyone? Or even the awakening of the Weapons in the North Crater!

Remember it's not the same people who make final fantasy before. They bascically fuse the whole X and X-2 and XII idea with VII. Massacre

Of course it wouldn't be the same. xD Because it would be Next-gen graphics by a less than sub-par development team that has next to none of the people who made the first game...
The best way to get it done is have Mistwalker, if not developing it, oversee it. But that won't happen, because Square Enix can't POSSIBLY team up with veterans of the biz to get the job done... :/

I don't think there will be a problem with the remake as Kitase who is working on FFXIII directed FFVII. Get him and his team from FFXIII (they also did the FFVII Tech Demo), and if needed, Tetsuya Nomura who did the character designs for FFVII.
I would also like to see a flashback cutscene of Jenova wrecking havoc on the Ancients.

True, but didn't Yoshinori Kitase and Tetsuya Nomura also work on DoC?
I think if they got their heads on straight there's a lot of potential there, but I get the feeling Kitase/Nomura is a combo just to big and full of itself to do this without turning it into a massacre.

Kitase and Nomura working on DoC doesn't mean that they will mess up a remake; they also worked together on FFVII. You have to take into consideration that DoC was a 3rd person shooter. That was their first attempt at that type of gameplay, instead of doing what they are used to, making RPGs.
They have the story, they know what they need to do to keep it within the context of the games/stories in Before Crisis, Crisis Core, Advent Children. Those stories came from the original FFVII, they really can't change the story, if they do, it would contradict the stories in the prequels and sequels; thus making those games/movie a waste.
The only thing they can do with the story is expand upon it, ensuring all the pieces fit throughout the canonical compilation.

I do like the new story elements, though I'm not sure I agree that all of them came from the original story, some of them seem to have come from no-where. It's tricky because the original story was never complete, they had to rush the release so there are a lot of elements that were left unexplained. But people have come to love the game regardless of its ambiguities, and I suppose it makes some of the new storylines acceptable. The problem that even the original team would have in making a remake would be how to tie up those loose ends left in the old game, and add the new elements, without upsetting fans who didn't notice that the original was incomplete.
I would be very open minded about the story, I just hope that they can pull it off.
As for the team, I agree, they should have stuck to making RPGs and DoC was a bad attempt at a different genre, but after reading a lot of interviews with those guys I just get the feeling that they think they've grown too big for the industry, it all sounded very stuck up, I wouldn't want them to go into a remake thinking that they could do no wrong because of some holier than thou attitude.

I think they themselves should do FFXIV and see if they could do that well first. Trial runs or something.
