Nah,I don't think so I mean if you saw him in last order you'll see that he's wearing a blue outfit not a purple 1 and I actually think that they made the outfit on the PS1 purple coz they don't care, I mean they didn't expect that the game will be a big hit.

In Last Order, Cloud was still a grunt soldier. He doesn't wear a first class uniform until FFVII begins. What color was Zack's uniform in Last Order?

I'd say the colour was blue. Might have to watch advent children again to confirm.

In my PSX version, he wears a purple jumpsuit thingy... indeed, on artwork and in the movie he wears dark blue/black/grey things. In FFVII battles he's blue too, as I recall it. Rather odd to have colored him purple in the "field", but I guess that's just how it is.

I wouldn't think there's any particular reason behind it; they're just inconsistent people. However on my copy of FFVII, he's wearing purple.

In the game he was definately in purple. He definately looks differant in AC colourwise. I know it hasn't got anything to do with the FFVII story but I think he looks awesome in the KH games.

actually...he was never really in soldier 
but anyway, his suit was definitely purple. but i liked the AC suit better it was more badass then a purple jumpsuit  |

Think about it, I mean what military force would have purple uniforms? Most Military attire is either blue or camoflauge; never purple.
Not to mention that Cloud is the only soldier in the entire game to wear a purple uniform. The rest of ShinRa's soldiers wear Blue.

I think you got it. If you look at the Soldiers that you fight in the Shrina building and Junon area...you will notice that their suits are similar to Cloud's, only blue. Cloud's suit was probably some cute graphical error that the designers decided to keep.

i personally think your all missing it, i think clouds suit was purple as it made him stand out it had nothing to do with he fact he was supposed to be in soldier or even 1st class, purple is seen as heroic and important. no idea why the suit was change to black in the film, possibly something to do with his mood? as he becomes quite depressed in it.
personally much preferred purple.
