I do kind of agree that AC did lessen the impact of her death. I think she had way too much screen time. They should have just gave us subtle to obvious hints that she was in fact present and then give her screen time at the very end in the church. The flower field, drops of water, and great gospel should have given us enough clues that she was present in the movie.

Though, the end of FF7 did leave up a lot for interpretation and AC did ruin much of that.

I'm strongly on the 'keep her dead' side. I was a big Aeris fan and a few years back, when I was a ten year old brought up on disney playing a game full of stuff I had no hope of understanding I would have wanted her revived. Now I'm a big Aeris fan and if I thought anyone at Squeenix even suggested reviving her I'd boycott the series altogether.

Aeris' death was:

1) Tragic and a heavy cost. Regardless of what the Aeris haters say, no-one deserves death no matter how annoying they seem to others. Aeris was full of life, one of the things that made her a little annoying to some people. She was flirty and cheery and happily hung outside a sex hotel waiting for Cloud when she could have easily stayed in the dress shop. She was kind and gentle, but she certainly wasn't an I SING AND THE BIRDS FLOCK TO ME AND THE ANIMALS LOVE ME type. She was very much the character who was enjoying life the most, making her willingness to give it up for the greater good still more touching.

2) Permanent. Related to the above point, the cost has no meaning if you just get it back. Aeris' death was touching because she had been willing to give up her life, knowing there was no way to change her mind or get her life back. The whole idea is lost if she can come back.

3) The only reason many players disliked Sephiroth enough to motivate them to beat him up. Sure, Cloud's home was a nice place but the player really isn't attached enough to care. The shinra folk who died were shown to the player as big jerks anyway (this sounds a little hypocritical compared to my point above about Aeris not deserving to die even if she was annoying, but I dont care. Being annoying and being malicious are different things). The Zolom was a show of strength rather than something that the player was supposed to hate Sephiroth for. (I assume, I can't say I cared much for that thing forcing me to go choco-hunting). There might be bits I am missing but that just proves that they're difficult to remember, a lot more difficult to remember than Aeris. Killing Aeris was a direct attack at the player, getting rid of someone who (to people who weren't Aeris-haters, anyway) had been a lively, cheerful person who was one of the easier characters to like.

4) Neccissary in terms of game mechanics. Two words - Fury Brand. Omnislash every time Aeris has level 2 limit break? Yes please.

Hey I love Aeris, but her death made the game much more DRAMATIC. No other main characters have died since Aeris. The rest of the Final Fantasys should take a lesson from VII, kill off one of your main characters, and be able to milk it fore at least 6 more games, and two movies. Not that I didn't like any of the FFVII spin-offs, or wouldn't play or watch any other one that was released.

And in case someone wants to be a smart-ass and bring up Auron, he was dead throughout the whole game, and his death or sending at the end did little to affect the story. In other words, you see it coming a mile away.

*Aeris was a terrible loss but her death was necessary for the players to understand that the Sepiroth is evil and doesnt give a shit about some flower girl! BWUAHAHA

*plus the party didnt need Aeris anyway, her limit breaks arent that useful, they can be substituted by curaga adn remedy and she sucks at physical attacks!

*I think the makers did a great job on having a character who might have been great to have in the end die on an early stage of the game,it makes the depth of the game more serious and interestng!

well on that my friend is what is called a translation error, as you no doubt have missed is the fact that Aerith is named Aerith in every installment after FFVII, and if you will look here on
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_F..._Children#Cast

It clearly shows her name as Aerith, THAT my friend is why everyone is calling her Aerith and rightly so.

back to the point, no most definatly not should they ever make a game for Aerith, even though she is my favorite character in the whole game, it would vastly take away the vale of her death in the original game so no not in a million years would I like to see a game of Aerith Revived.

Fair enough it WAS a translation error, but some of us have always known her to be called Aeris because we never KNEW it was a translation error. I for one can't get out of that habit. My strategy guide refers to her as Aerith but to be honest I thought that was the error. It's only recently that I have come aware of it myself, so I chose to still refer to her as Aeris if that's ok by you

Anyways, just keep her dead. I don't think Id like to see any kind of spin off or back story or anything like that - I just think it would ruin the image people have of her and when Squenix start messing they tend to hack, slash and rehash in there own crazy way

Im not saying calling her Aeris is wrong, I was just saying why most people, myself included, call Aerith Aerith

I would have to agree with the decision of Square in killing her off. It shows that the games are not just happy endings all around, but that some thigs atre finite and have a sense of reality. To Revive Aerith would shatter all of the FF series to show that all Square is sending you is one happy ending after another. If you take a look back, a character has died in each game to give that sense of mortality to the characters and show that the threat of death is very real to them.

It would be interesting the but then the whole "You get stabbed with the Masamune there is no bringing back" thing would be discombabulated....but then again...this FF anything could happen. That's one factor down, but there's the whole Enix doing too much crap to FFVII....they milked it too much so it's not likely to happen.
It would be cool tho ^^

I'm for keeping her dead. It would change part if her story if she came back.. being the last Ancient that died and all to save the world.
As for the CloTi/ CloRis - This is kind of settled in Aeris' side story " The Maiden who Travels the Planet" which is Published in the FFVII Ultimania Omega book. Also Tifa's side story also points to their relationship.
Also Nomura doesnt like to out right tell you ( cause then there'll be too much bishing). There are tons of hints through out AC as who the main pairing is. The fact they they both refer themselves as a family. Especially when they keep zooming in on the ring Tifa wears. And Nomura stated in that showing the ring has hidden meaning.

In all honesty Aeris never knew the real Cloud. She was drawn to him cause of the characteristics he pulled from Zack and that kind of just snow balls. Cloud in FFV
