Yeah, thats because the Biggs and Wedge in FF are homages to them. they seem to die in most of them though  like FFVI VII and VIII.
did the original Biggs and Wedge Die?
there in every FF from VI onward (except IX) and their also in KH2 as storekeeprs in armour shops, and their in chocobos dungeon 2 as black mages. Thier also in chrono trigger as Vicks and Wedge again..
