I mainly used Knights for power in attacks and then added in White Mage abilities so that I could heal. Mainly Reina and Krile were my healers while I let Faris do some Samurai work as well as summon every now and then.

Bartz - Freelancer - Knight mastered , Summoner mastered - Two handed, summon

Lenna - Freelancer - White Mage Mastered, Time Mage Mastered - Time, White

Krile - Freelancer - Black Mage Mastered , Red Mage Mastered - Dualcast, Black

Faris - Frelancer - Ninja Mastered, Ranger Mastered, Mystic Knight Mastered - Automatic Dual wield from Ninja, Rapid Fire, Spell blade

In no particular order, Blue Mage, White Mage, Ninja and Lancer.

I always find the boss... hmm what was it... it's like a mammoth that breaks the water crystal. Anyway, I always find that one ridiculously tough and resort to four Monks.

I have only played the English translation of the original game, so I don't know if the bard class was maintained in the re-releases. If you play every piano in the game though, you get a great song called the Hero Song. The hero song causes everyone in your party to level up constantly during battle. HP and MP stay the same, but attack and defense continually raise to great heights. The effect is limited to the current battle though. I had Bartz as a bard once when I finished the game and after he sang the Hero Song for a few minutes during the last battle, every attack all my other characters did took 9999 from the boss guy. I really liked combining the Bard with the Samurai for the gill toss which is a good quick attack that does not cost MP and attacks all bad guys on the screen.
