| Final Fantasy IX The last installment ever to be released originally for the Playstation, FF9 returned to the roots of Final Fantasy in terms of characters and jobs, yet introduced interesting twists to abilities and other such features. |

What next?
I completed Final fantasy IX not long ago and I thought it was excellent. It's the first 3D Final Fantasy I've played and I want to play another one that's just as good. If you also liked FFIX, which one would you recommend? (I don't actually have a PS2 but I suppose I could get a cheap one for my birthday in August)
On a side note, where were the tonberrys in this game?

Tonberries can be found at Ipsen's Castle =)
Well I suggest VII or VI if you manage to find them, they're graphical not as good as IX but the gameplay is magnificent.
Otherwise if you're able to get a PS2 X is surely a good one =).

Yes, I would suggest you play VII next, because it simply is an awesome game, if you like IX, you're gonna love VII, guaranteed.

VII is probably your best choice, I think X is an alright game too but since you don't have a PS2, yeah.
Don't expect to find better chocobo minigames in the other ones. IX has the best, in my opinion.

VII and IX don't have very many things in common in terms of story line and settings. Here, I'll break down the similarities and differences.
+ FFIX is played in a mideval setting
+ FFVII is in an urban 1960s/fantasy mix
+ FFIX is about mysticism, romance, and magic
+ FFVII deals with man-made power, greed, corrupt government
+ The villain in FFIX is classic...somewhat oldschool...out to manipulate everyone...
+ The villain in FFVII just kills kills kills, he's phsychotic, derranged...one of the best FF villains if you ask me...
+ FFIX's story focuses around love and war
+ FFVII's story focuses around loss and..."salvation" if you will...
+ FFIX's ability and level up system is somewhat simple and limited...each character has their own unique abilities...
+ FFVII's ability and leveling system is more free-form; your equipment and magic define's your character's fighting class...
+ Both FFIX and FFVII have a good share of decent and fun side quests, and in this category, they tie.
+ They also tie in terms of good music and orchestrations...
Fear not...although FFVII is set in an urban environment, it does show off all of the familiar oldschool assets like moogles, tonberries, chocobos, and great summons. =]
My advice to you is NOT to play FF8...it's utterly horrible in comparison to the rest of the series and lacks everything that makes up the fantasy genre. It's far too industrial...
Well...hope that helps. =]

If you want something completely different to IX play VII, but if you want something similar, Play FFVI. there both fantastic games in their own right and both are often considered the greatest game in the series respectively.

I'd say go back and play the first 3D FF, FFVII. Then after all the 3D ones play all the old-skool classics. I've been playing XII (finished VII, VIII, XI and X) but I've also been playing FF IV cause it's quite renowned by fans and I've never played the 2D classics.

I never actually thought about FFVII (for some reason). I think I've decided to get that next. Now I'll find out who Sephiroth is! I already know the big secret thing involving a certain character but I'm sure that won't spoil the actual plot much(right?).
Anyway, thanks everybody! Some time after FFVII when I feel like playing another final fantasy (if I play them all at once I'll just get sick of them :p ) then I'll probably go for VI.
If anyone has anything else to say then feel free.
