Although I usually end up being wrong about pronunciation...

Pronounce it "Zi-daan" like the soccer player Zinedine Zidane. Also of note, on wikipedia...

I pronounce it with a short "i" and a long "a." That's just me though.

Yep. It kinda bugs me when people pronounce the names wrong, when the kana pretty much spells it out for you. It does get a little fuzzy when the double translation doesn't work so well (like Aeris/Aerith), but most of the time you can rely on the kana.
