There was only one time when I thought that Zidane was a girl, and that was when I saw a cardboard advertisement for the game in our local Toys'R'Us. I was still bound and determined that I wasn't going to get a Playstation at the time, and I thought "Damn, that's either one ugly girl, or some really deformed guy!" or something like that.
As for Freya...uhh...not to sound condescending or anything, but...her default name is Freya!
I suppose I preserved my judgement until then. I really can't say that I thought either way when I first saw her.
However, I did seem to think, before I actually met him, that when Freya was asking herself where "Sir Fratley" was, I though she was referring to Zidane.

While playing the game I cannot fathom how you can go through it and STILL think Zidane is a girl after all the references to HIM as a "He". They say he, him, and his, 400 times in the game. I think I realized Zidane was a male from his very first appearance in the game; it's not that hard to decipher.

I did think that he was a girl at first when I saw his pic in the menu, but then it's just so obvious, doh, the main character is like, never a girl. But now that I think about it... Zidane would make a very appealing girl.xD More appealing than a certain pretty boy we all know.

Zidane's face seriously looks like a girl especially in CG. the first time I saw him I'd really thought he's a girl unless referred as 'he'. And Kuja definitely looks female the first time he's revealed in that FMV at Burmecia. plus their names sound feminine aren't they?
As for Freya I've always thought she's a girl.
