Apart from Kuja being a cheap Sephiroth knock off with nothing original about him I really liked the game. It did seem however that they took the FFVII story and put it in a more fantasy styled setting and voila a new game. I mean Kuja was basically created just as Sephiroth(a war fighting monster) and closely linked to Zidane the same way Cloud was to Sephiroth. Also Zidane didnt know a lot of his past the same as Cloud and the similarities are really ridiculously obvious and endless. The first time I played through this game I didn't enjoy it as much as when I played through it this time which was recently.
Overall it's a much deeper game then VII even with all the similarities in the story line the story was actually done much better. When I was younger I was a VII fan boy basically without knowing it, but playing through this game VII,VIII, and X recently I have to say this was hands down the best FF to come out since playstation was released. I cant wait to play the ones I havent played yet. (Any after X). X was pretty terrible but whatever maybe I'll like it my second time through.

I like to think of FF9 is a much improved version of FF7. Zidane is just like Cloud, and Kuja is like a better more thought out Sephiroth. They also added a kind of epic story that actually made sense, and didn't have nearly as many holes as FF7. However, I do have to note the more Childish tone of this game as compared to others.
I liked FF9, but I didn't love it. It was a good game, but not great. I haven't played it in a while, so I might have to start again.
My tremendous intuitive sense of the female creature informs me that you are troubled.

I liked it, overall. I first attempted it when I was 10, and only because I liked the guy with the monkey tail. XD
When I actually played it 6 years later, I found that I pretty much liked the story, but it felt a tad bit lacking at the end, for some reason I can't explain yet. o_O And I didn't understand why they didn't kiss until the very end, when it starts fading out. I was waiting nearly the entire game for that!
but my overall opinion is that I liked it. Very simple and easy to play, great for a beginner or someone new to the FF series.

I just want to add also, the morals of the characters were very good,
I liked the way that at the start it had the characters, and the morals they discovered on their travels, like zidanes 'you dont need a reason to help somebody'
and garents wich was something like 'someday I will grow up, but I will always be myself.'

I love FFIX, the battle setup and stats are ideal and should be used in all of the games. Though i don't like the instant trances which i think they should use the FFX overdrives and save those trances for big battles. But other then that, it's a pretty good game with an awesome story line!

I voted Love It, heres why:
First off I have to say out of all the FF's I have played, including FF VII I would have to say FF IX had the best characters in my opinion. They all had well written story's and I don't think there was one character that I didn't like to use in a battle. They all had great abilities that were unique to themselves and helped out in there own little ways.
Second is the storyline. From the opening sequence to the final battle the story grips you like the claws of death. I laughed, I felt anger(when the Black Waltz killed all the black mages on the Airship ), and I even felt sadness (when Zidane couldn't find himself). If they ever ever made a remake of this game it would well worth it for the storyline alone.
Third is the musical score. It another great job by SE, it was an epic soundtrack that kept me going throughout the entire game.
Fourth is Tetra Master. I really enjoyed this mini game, it was fun collecting all the card and playing the game wasn't hard to learn. I especially liked it at the end when you could get some the really cool cards.
Fifth is the Chocobo Hot and Cold mini-game. It was an awesome quest that you could do to not only get some really sweet ass weapons/armor, but it was really exciting to play the game itself.
All in all I can play this game over and over and not get bored with it, its an epic game and will always have a place in my heart.

I loved 9 as it was a definate return to form after 8 (I know some people like 8, but i felt it was rushed and the story was horrible) The characters had great personalities not to mention the world was pretty damn awesome, not to mention Vivi ranks in one my top 5 all time favorite FF characters ^^

The greatest!
IMHO, FF IX was about the best, if not the best, FF ever produced. I never played FF XI, even though I have it...I hope to fairly soon. FF X was OK, FF X-2 was better (I hope I don't get flamed/trolled for saying FF X-2 is better than FF X, that's just my opinion anyway), and I really liked FF XII, but for my money, FF IX takes them all. I've heard a lot of people didn't like FF VIII, but I liked that one too! Anyway, FF IX is one of the few RPG's that was so good I was nearly depressed when I got through the game...oh well, I know, I should get a life I suppose. I just wonder, did anyone else have a hard time finding their way out of the Dungeon in the sand? I think it was the Sand Castle, or something like that. I think it was Kuja's lair, it's been awhile since I played the game. I didn't get the strategy guide for FF IX, so I think I eventually had to go to GameFaqs... or maybe I just got lucky...

Eeee, I loved FFIX. I play it a lot and I hate finishing it. I think the story was awesome and I'm in love with Lindblum and Alexandria, they're beautiful.
I think the characters were perfect, Zidane and Vivi being my favourites, and I liked the way they all had their little stories and that.
The only thing I didn't like about this game is where Necron came from, he just appeared out of nowhere and tried to destroy everything.
But yes, absolutely adore this game.
