Well you must be at least level 16 or 18 (from my experience) then you must be properly prepared (Echo screen, Gold Needle, and of course... Potion as many as you can get).
Along the way to the top you'll find an offensive item such as antartic wind and bomb fragment, save it for the battle with the medusa. Let the weakest party use it.
Keep your HP high with cure and try to not let any of your party fainted (It will be hard to revive it and recover). Use Fira and thunder for magic.
Tip: Why don't you go to the village of the ancient (located on the far south west in the map). They have a very good equipment at this level of game.
Conserve your MP along your way to the top! Try to use fight command menu and save your best magic for Medusa!
