There was a plot, it was a huge improvement to the NES game that I played.
It might not of been the equivalent to FFVII's Plot but it still was there.

Hmm...hearing that there's no more FMV's except for the opening part is dissapointing me. I thought the opening FMV was beautiful and expected to see more...ah,well.It's still a good game and that's all that really matters.
