I got Cure, Fire, Ice and Bolt to level 12. Protect and Shell (i don't believe those were the names in FFII but never mind) were level 8 and everything else was between level 1-5.
Another question, who didn't use the cheat to level up spells?

I cheated after my first playthrough to see each spell go through the more powerful animations (only to disappointed that most change little to none).
But, unless I'm thinking of something else, the cheat is basically setting the cursor to "memory," setting up a repeatable set of actions against a non fleeing enemy (usually black flans outside of Mysidia), and leaving something heavy on the "X" or "A" button.
Example set up:
Firion: Fire attack on Party
Guy: Scourge on flans (heals them)
Maria: Casts cure on party.
I hope that makes sense...

th lvl system was allright it. i liked how it was possible to get ALL training done in the beginig of the game. butr still that takes FOREVER. my charaters got to the point of doing about 6000 damage and had about 5000-6000 hp. then agion ive only had the patients to play it once lol

I dont know Maria as a white mage or even a mage period... >.> I guess you can say I turned her into a Monk... her without a weapon or shield.. she could hit 6000+ with relative ease... which is waaaaay better then the other guys can hit with weapons...

Iv only just started and Im not really sure how I want to develop everyone at the moment....can't say i'm a huge fan of it but then I'v only just left Altair & I have whoever the woman is as a white mage (or at least thats what I'm going for) And the others are all just doing physical attacks. I just have the annoying feeling it's all gunna go tits up somewhere because I've done it all wrong

The freedom of the system can definitely be a little daunting. Just make sure you don't try to spread the skills out too thinly. It'll be much better to plan out what kinds of spells you want each person to have (i.e. assign each character a customized job class).

Assigning each person a "class" is okay, but (in my opinion) you need to have backups. I have Maria with high level magics, but my others have decent levels as well. Maria has very little weapon skill, though. I just like the idea of having powerhouse magic users (level 12 fire and climbing...and I haven't even gone anywhere other than around Altair and Fynn). I mean, you get to a point that having good magics becomes easy. If you want the strength, just make sure to build the magics first.
