My original party, and still my favourite one would have to be Warrior, White Mage, Black Mage, Monk. That party rocked more ass then an anal porn video.

Well, I've completed it with 4 of every class, ie 4x BlkMage etc. But when i'm playing it properly I have a fighter, monk, Wht + Blk Mage. Because a) It's a healthy mix and b) If you give the Warrior Ultima Blade, The Blk Mage Sasuke's Blade, the Wht Mage Excalibur (its may be the other way round with excalibur and Ultima Blade) and the master his fists (attacks 16 times) at Lvl 99 they can do 5,000 damage plus per turn. Thhis is the only way I ever masnage to defeat Omega in the Water Dungeon side quest!

I picked the typical party - Fighter, Black Belt, White Mage, Black Mage. Black Mage, as it turns out, is a useless class compared to the other ones, and White Mage is very limited in its usefulness.

Serious parties
The best party for the NES and Original versions of Final Fantasy is most probably:
Warrior (Fighter)
Monk (Black Belt)
White Mage
Red Mage
If, on the other hand, you're playing the Easy mode or the GBA Final Fantasy, the best party is probably:
Warrior
Monk
White Mage
Black Mage
This is because the Black Mage can cast more spells in Easy mode, which disguises his weak fighting ability more.

My original party for the GBA version was Warrior, Thief, Black Mage, White Mage.
I plan on using Warrior (Fighter), Black Mage, Thief and Red Mage on the NES version.
