Vincent. The man has lots of experiance on the field as well as a cool gun. He can also transform into a beast at times. It depends on what fight you're talking about.
If all these characters were to fight against each other I'd say that Tidus would win. No one would attack him so he wouldn't bother attacking anyone else. Just as soon as everybody is killed, Tidus woud be the only one left on the field.
This is just a fun way of explaining the battle. In more serious as in 'who's more powerful' I vote for Vincent.

Squall. His Lionheart outdoes Omnislash by like 5 hits, Yuna and Tidus wouldn't be stong enough. Vincent might stand a chance, if he went into his Chaos form, but Squall could still murder him, Idk who Cecil is since I haven't played 4, but Vaan is a wimp and would be going oh no! its a stong person!!!! Save me Party of FFXII characters who are all better than me!!!! *looks around* Balthier? Ashe? Penelo? Basch? Fran??? *looks at Squall* oh shit.

i say cecil mainly because if anyone strikes him he does double damage right back to them with his counter ability as a paladin. plus, he can heal himself and wield ownage swords.

However I am curious as to why only 5 of the main series central characters were used with 2 for 10/10-2 and 3 from 7 and its never ending spin-offs/sequels were included as opposed to those from the main series (zidane, luneth, terra) or is it just the continual bias towards ff 7 and 10 that seems to be everywhere now

Actually, I was goi9ng by Gameplay. I rather dislike 7, though 10 being my 3rd favourite.
Story wise... Hard to say, but Zidane or Terra is a safe bet.
