I decided to start by evaulating who's the better hero...

The Heroes
Cloud Strife Vs Squall Leonheart

Cloud Stife
Ex grunt-class soldier.
Mako infusion and Jenova cell infusion: upper hand at strength.
Emotionally instable.
False memories.

Cloud’s primary ambitions include:
Saving the world from Sephiroth and meteor.
Avenging the death of his friends and battle comrades.
Discovering his true identity.

Most outlandish things Cloud has ever done:
Breaking into Shinra HQ.
Jumping onto a moving train at 392834 mph.
Using so much hair gel it’s a fashion crime.

Super sexy appeal status: Risk taker

Limit Breaks:

Braver
Description: Attacks one opponent.

Cross Slash
Description: Attacks and (can) paralyze one opponent.

Blade Beam
Description: Attacks one main target for heavy damage, then diffuses to hit other opponent(s) for smaller damage.

Climhazzard
Description: Attacks one opponent.

Meteorain
Description: Attacks all opponents. Looks cool.

Finishing Touch
Description: Blows away all opponents or if opponents can't be blown away, eg bosses, damages them. Also looks cool.

Omnislash
Description: Cloud jumps towards his enemy and performs a 15 hit combo against either a single enemy or multiple targets. With the correct weapon, omnislash can perform more damage than Knights of the Round.

Squall Leonheart
Teenage mercenary in training.
Emotionally unstable.
No memories.

Squall’s primary ambitions include:
Rescuing Rinoa.
Protecting Rinoa.
Defeating Ultimecia because Cid told him to.

Most outlandish things Squall has ever done:
Giving Rinoa up to confinement in Esthar, then changing his mind 3 seconds later and breaking into Esthar’s sorceress memorial because Quistis told him to.
Driving a sexy car into a fence while pursuing Edea.
Breaking the world record for saying “whatever” more consecutive times than anyone in history ever.

Super sexy appeal status: conformist rule-breaking boy-toy

Limit Breaks:
Rough Divide
Description: Squall charges at a single enemy and performs an upward slice.

Fated Circle
Description: Squall releases an energy wave while in mid-air with his Gunblade, which targets all enemies.

Blasting Zone
Description: Squall's Gunblade forms a gigantic beam pillar that smashes all opponents.

Lion Heart
Description: Squall slashes a single target 18 times, doing heavy damage with each cut.

The who's the better hero debate is practically unsolvable, since they both have their ups and downs.
Wait till I get to the who's the better heroin part...

You do know that most of the final fantasy VII main characters have far more history to them than the final fantasy VIII characters.

The facts speak for themselves and the facts say Squall and Rinoa are the only developed characters in ff VIII.

All crap...here we go with this again. I've got a question. Why do everyone insist on seeing FF7 and FF8 killin' each other. Of course it would be very intertaining to see Squall kick Cloud's a** but come on! How about FF9 vs FF4? And Kefka would be a challeage to any FF character. FF8 may be my favorite, but now this topic is gettin' really old, really fast. By the way, FF8 would win for a number of different reasons...

Anyway, I think FFVIII just scrapes it, but that is only my opinion.
