final fantasy online worth it?
ok, im told by alot of people this game sucks because you delevel and if you get to level 5 you are going to be level 5 like 10 times from dieing over and over, and its really frustrating, when i heard this i was of course very disapointed! i wanted to get it but the bad talk i hear has led me to play everquest for PS2 instead, wich i have been playing for nearly 5 years. if i do get this game it will be for te 360. can someone please clarify for me if this game is worth the frustration, and bare in mind i work ALOT and have little time for deleveling and drama, i want true final fantasy action! thanks.

First of all, you don NOT and I mean do NOT stay at level 5 from dieing like 10 times. Sure you die maybe a couple of times, but hey, its expected. If you keep up with equipment and such you will have an easier time. And plus if you team up there is less of a chance of dieing. Trust me, this game is worth your money, especially since they update with new missions and features almost every month, and they have a new expansion coming out soon.

Prepare to pull alot of sick days. This game needs alot of time and attention.

To be honest, I don't think it is worth it. However, the game does get very addictive. But soon I just gave up on it as the game gets too repetitive as it is almost like this.
Seek Party
(30 minutes later) Someone invites you.
(5 minutes later) Party disbands for whatever reason.
Seek Party
(1 hour later) You get invite.
(20 minutes later) Finally a full party.
(30 minutes later) 1 member leaves so everyone else decides to go.
Seek Party
(1 hour later) Someone asks you "Till next level", but won't invite because you are too high/low in exp that would create a gap.
Repeat for the next few months.
Despite the constant grinding, even if it is what you are always doing you still don't make a lot of money. Even when I tried selling items cheaper they still wouldn't get sold so with the constant grinding, searching for party and generally having next to money and not up-to-date equipment. I decided to leave, mostly because all the people that started the same time as I did (Christmas) had also cancelled their subscriptions and just lost the enthusiasm to continue.
At the beginning though, it does seem amazing with the large scale of Vana'diel and travelling, battling with other users but that soon fades away and you will soon find that the large scale of Vana'diel to be time consuming aswell, even with Chocobo's.
So basically, what I am saying is. It starts off fun but after a month or 2 with just repeating the same things over again gets very boring. It helps if you know someone or even meet someone within the game and go through it together, otherwise it can seem pretty boring.

It is totally worth it, and trust me if you like everquest on PS2(I played it too) then you'll love FFXI. Yes you're going to delevel from time to time, but its rpetty rare I leveled PUPto 75 and COR to 64 without deleveling at all.
The only reason I'd say to pass on it is cause you say you work a lot, but really theres no rush.

It's not worth it at all. I really wish it was. The game has a lot of upsides to it... but honestly there's a lot more downs than ups. If it weren't just a horrible leveling system designed just to get your money then it would probably be alright. Also if you didn't spend half the game fighting bees and sheep that can completely tear your ass apart, then it would have been alright.

XP loss on a death is 10% at lower levels (caps at loosing 2600 instead of going on to loosing 4400 at level 75)
The key is to make friends and do what you enjoy. Theres more than one way to get levels, you can solo a lot of levels, although it is slow compared to a party it is possible and you can seek party at the same time.
The game is a little too reliant on teamwork and if you do party, you need a couple of hours for a good XP session, although at lower levels this will make you at least one level.

Does it strike you people as odd at all that you die in the game though? Name a regular Final Fantasy game where you die more than once during the course of the game. If you can, your a moron. Why should it be different with online games? Why do they feel the need to kill you? They make these "rules" in case you die... but it should be made as a backup plan in the very rare off-chance that you happen to die during battle. In Final Fantasy XI you are constantly dying. Stupid starter animals that should never be able to kill anyone is what is killing you!
The dying system they put into place isn't a backup plan in case you die, it's part of the actual gameplay. And that's bullshit. Because that means that they anticipate you playing the game for a longer period of time to regain the same exp you already gained. And does that even make sense to begin with? Why would you loose experience? You fought, you won, you gained knowledge of battle and therefore you gained experience. Life has taught most little more that with failure comes experience. If anything, when you die you should GAIN experience. The whole system just fucking blows.

You shouldnt be dying all that much on normal exp mobs.. you obviously were not checking things before engaging, or fighting in safe places... Death is not an everyday thing like you make it seem. When you're low level is when you should be dying the least if at all. And exp for death? thats crazy, you saying you want to be able to level up from death alone? I'm sorry but that doesnt sit right with me XD
