I planned on deleting my completed data, and starting anew, but I deleted my old data before using the Al Bhed compilation sphere to learn all of the Al Bhed language.

Not necesserally completed but my brother did accidently erase over my game and I only had 1 save file. I only use another save file if I'm about to do something risky and since I hadn't really came across that situation in FFX, my game was erased. I was just after the Thunder Plains but now I am in Kilika Temple I think. He said that he would get me back to where I was though.

Well mine is a little different to yours
I used reflect on myself against jumbo flan in monster arena and i forgot he had reflect already and i double casted flare on him and it bounced back.
Man the number of times i did that......
