I'm not sure about this, Does Squall ever officially die?

Well, seeing as he was in the ending FMV I'd say he survived the entire game. Of course about 60-70 years after the events of FFVIII, he probably would die.

well what about the fmv that shows edea throwing ice at squall stabbing through him. and the end where rinoa find squall on the groud dead (i think.) and rinoa cries.

yes..that would be a very good idea....thats only the end of the 1st disc (i think) you should play the other 2 discs..

Squall does not die. At the very end of the game, he is seen on the balcony with Rinoa and a mushy love scene follows. When Edea hit him with her Ice strike, she missed all vitals, and was only aiming to injure him, since, as the leader of the SeeDs set out to kill her, she needed him to interrrogate, and find out what the other things SeeD may be plotting.
