Eh, I like Balthier. He was quite relevant to the plot. What he did at the end was amazing and attested to his true character. Sure, his "I'm leading man" thing could get boring but it wasn't enough to make me not like his character. I still think Balthier brought a lot to the table in terms of story to FFXII. I agree with Hayate that the story wouldn't have been the same without him. He's more interesting than Vaan for sure. Battlewise, he's not useless, there's a reason why he is one of the attackers for the 50 minute Yiazmat challenge, because he has very good strength.
