Exclamation Epilepsy

I don't suffer from this myself but I thought perhaps there should be some rules about making posts that might set off some people epilepsy. Noticed after post #99 on this thread http://www.finalfantasyforums.net/sp...54-page10.html
Thought I'd bring it up before someboidy ends up on the floor.

Thanks for pointing that out, Dazz. Yes I agree. As a victim of epilepsy myself, I had to hurry and scroll past that page so I wouldn't have to look at it for long periods of time. Sorry, Lord Kaos, it's nothing against you or your post, but I'm going to have remove that image from your post. Flashing, bright images like that used to set me off into fits of seizures and it's probably not a good idea to have images like that up if people here on the board do suffer from it. It's hard for people who don't have it to understand, but it's a very scary thing, not only for the sufferer but if there is a person there to witness it and if the person is seizing alone, that is also very dangerous.

I remember when people were posting tonnes of flashing rainbow coloured nazi flag pictures on ACF. It would be a nightmare for anyone with Epilepsy.

I doubt such a thing would happen here but considering this is a forum about video games I am surprised flashing images don't get posted more often and they are indeed a danger to those with Epilepsy.

A revision to the rules on this matter is perhaps a necessity I think, notice however subjects like these only come up when there is a need for it.

We are never pro-active about such things.

If you have epilepsy and you play video games, let alone own electronic objects that have or are connected to a screen, (Wii, PS1-3, Cable Television, a computer) and do things involving animation, bright colors, or flashing lights, then your pretty damn stupid. People with Epilepsy should not go online for simple fear of these blinking lights.
Kinda like the ads you see on the top bars of sites. Those could trigger an episode. Yet they're still there.
Or, in video games and televison shows, there are lots of bright flashing lights... And, you shouldn't be on a site that is devoted to a video game if you can't even play them because of your illness.
What, just because you have an illness we should change the rules... just for a few select people? Just because they don't have the intelligence to keep away from the source of their problems? No.
It's like leaving a diabetic child with $50 unattended in a candy store... If something happens, it's their fault, not the candy nor the stores.

Lord Kaos, that is not true. There is a very specific type of frequency that sets off seizures. Video games would not cause a seizure unless the images flash at that freqency. I believe the images, you posted, are at that frequency.

I know that. And I actually think it's faster than that, because if I remember right, they had issues with the old Pokemon episodes because people were having seizures as well... They blinked at twice the rate, three times as brightly, if I remember correctly...

BTW. Those icons blink at the same rate as some of the ads you see online.

Bit of logic #2.
The creator of the icon has to be SMART to use the programs they did to create those icons. High school grad, bare minimum. People should know what seizures are by middle school. In fact, in health in Elementary school, I studied Seizures and such.... And if they're creating something animated, they should know very well what their doing for fear of lawsuit.
And if they don't know what their doing, that's their bad, not mine.

I don't think any of the FF games have that problem. Even though I have a history of seizures, flashing lights never bothered me. But my problem was a head injury. Also, I no longer need medication.

Huh... I don't think you ever told any of us about that. What did you do? Sports injury, or no?

It was a sports injury. I had 3 Ice Hockey related injuries to the head. The one that caused my seizure problem also caused a short period of amnesia. I had a major concussion to the top of my head. This is why Hockey Helmets and Face Guards are so important.
