Would Cel-Shaded Graphics Work on a FF Game?

One of the main criticisms of modern Final Fantasy is that too long is spent on the (admittedly brilliant) graphics, and not enough on the gameplay, making a large, explorable world, etc. Now obviously we want big open worlds and developed battle systems, but we don't want a game that looks pants either.

So, I was thinking, maybe cel-shaded graphics, like those in Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Okami, Jet Set Radio and XIII (Not FFXIII, this is a completely different game) would help. Cel-shaded games are much less graphics-intensive and a lot easier to make than photo-realistic games (I assume) due to the more simple textures and less emphasis on being realistic, meaning ol' Squenix could invest less in graphics and spend longer making a great game.

Also, I think the style would suit Final Fantasy really well. It wasn't until FFX that we started down the "realistic" look with the style, and I think an exaggerated, stylized, almost hand-drawn looking aesthetic would both inject some new life into the series and be a nice homage to the older games.

Anyway, what do YOU think?:moogle:

Battle of the Mascots

Lately we have been seeing an invasion of the Tonberry. Its on our forum, on the frontpage and was the first to be purchasable in the VBShop. This is unacceptable IMO. Therefore I declare war. Once and for all we will decide who is and always was Final Fantasy's TRUE mascot.

~Carbuncle~

Wikia: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/C...e_%28Summon%29

Carbuncle was a little critter which sometimes could be used as a summon and is quite cute. On the other hand it also is an enemy in some FF titles and that IMO is unacceptable :mokken: Not to mention as a summon it only gives Status boosts and doesnt do damage at all. This "Mascot" is therefore officially deemed by the amazing Ohri-Jin Sama as a LOSER lesser being.

~Cactuar~

Wikia:http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Cactuar

The cactuar aah where do I begin. This is one of my favourite enemies. They come in great varieties. It also seems some were able to be summoned, but I can honestly not remember that. I remember the Jumbo versions quite clearly though. Hmmm on second thought I think if you defeat the Jumbo cactuar in FF8 you get it as a GF. It comes with a free moustache too. This baby could instakill with 100.000 needles now thats vicious. Ohri-Jin likes this mascot a lot.

~PuPu~

Wikia: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/PuPu

The PuPu. A tiny blue alien. It looks cute but its looks are deceiving. It sometimes demands items and if you dont comply it will smack the shit out of you. Sometimes it comes in a jar and you have to hit the right symbols on that jar to receive goodies. Hit the wrong symbol and it will bitchslap you. Be wary of this creature indeed. Ohri-Jin thinks this mascot is lame.

~Moogle~

Wikia: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Moogle_%28Race%29

The moogles comes with a cute pom pom. They often say words like "Kupo". I have no idea if KUDOS has something to do with Kupo but I always felt its connected somehow. They are cute but also very intelligent. Dont underestimate these guys. Ohri-Jin thinks the moogles are prominent and are very important in FF9 which has the best moogle designs thus Ohri-Jin thinks the moogles are high up the ranks and a major contestant.

~Moomba~

Appearance:FFVIII
Wikia: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Moomba

The Moomba is very cute but also super useful. It can seriously brawl. This is one mascot that should return to shine again. The Moomba resembles a lion and thus complements Squall's last name Leonhart and sign LEO. It was quite fond of Zell, but then again who wasnt. Even that damn dolphin liked Zell if I remember correctly. Ohri-Jin approves of this mascot and thinks it should return asap.

~Tonberry~
Wikia: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Tonberry

Brrrr...The Tonberry. I hate this critter. It looks like a freaking mutated toad and has a lantern and a kitchen knife. The tonberry slows down your freaking pace and when it gets close you will get Karma'd. Sometimes it even bitchslaps your summons. Ohri-Jin thinks this lame creature has taken the spotlight for too long now. It was fun long it lasted, but for now I say OFF WITH ITS HEAD!

~Chocobo~

Wikia: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Chocobo

The Ultimate winner of this battle is the Chocobo. The chocobo is versatile. It can be mounted, used for pulling carts and even used as a summon that actually packs a punch. It comes in many different variations. Its fast which you can use for races, but you can also train them to ride for battle. The Chocobo is the most useful mascot ever. The Chocobo is Ohri-Jin's favourite mascot and creature overall. Therefore Ohri-Jin announces that the Chocobo is the ultimate mascot and winner of this battle!!!!!!!

Whats your favourite Mascot?
Which FF title would your favourite mascot originate from?
Would you want to see the Chocobo or Moogle ICONS back on the forum?

Obviously I mean out of the voiced Final Fantasy games so 10, 10-2, 12, 13, 13-2 and I suppose any on the handheld systems that may have VAs (do any others even exist??)

I think 12 has the best voice acting. The vocies are a little muffled at times but the way the characters talk is still very believable and not over the top. Even a lot of the npc's have good voice acting! They couldn't have picked a better VA for Balthier.

I think FFX and FFX-2 had the worst VA's. They were awkward sounding (do I need to mention the laughing scene??) and it seemed like the Voice Actors didn't take into account any full stops or grammar when they were talking, they kind of just rush through their lines which annoys me a bit. I think Auron had the only good VA in the whole thing.

Now you :toni:

Since Tomb Raider Reboot gained a true hit with a kind of Holywood action style. I think future of Final Fantasy series should have jump at a this opportunity in order to change plot, strategy and all of playing systems like that. I don't mean it will be similiar to Metal Gear Solid ,but let look round Call of Duty series. If Square Enix want to make their game being satisfy North America gamers, they have to build a script in that a world is already crash, the some events which is really special like Ghost and Roach was burned and other teams took a revenge for sure. It's an example, even so Lightning create a whole story herself since her sister had been dead, but people seem to remember less than the overall scenario of Moder Warfare. This is my ideal. Hope revenue of SE will not a mainly problem after Final Fantasy mutate the style successfully.
In my opinion, gamers will have a suprised and thrill emotion reality but SE can still keep up their forte in scenario and battle system if style of game is followed this CGI movie:

I've been a big fantasy fantasy fan since my first play though of Square's number VII instalment of Final Fantasy when I was younger, and during that time I've seen many magnificent towns and cities in the series. Anyway here's the top 10 Final Fantasy Towns that I believe to be the best in the series. Most of these areas are memorable and hold a lot of nostalgia. Join me as I countdown my top 10 final fantasy towns thus far. This tribute should bring back some memories. Hope you enjoy.
