Today in Lirael’s blog! The crazy things you do with friends! =) Comment with your own memories!

I have far too many. Right now, I’m listening to the Pokemon Theme; there’s a video of my friends and I dancing/singing along with this in various places at school! I was one of the cool kids… Earlier on, I was listening to Hakuna Matata and promptly remembered the time a friend and I danced to Disney music for an hour at 1am. Living away from home at Uni had its advantages!

I have always embraced these ‘crazy’ moments in life. Once, my friend Wai-Yee decided to wear a plastic bag over her head to avoid the rain. Others started laughing at her, so I joined in, pushing two eye holes through my own plastic bag and placing it proudly over my head. Many people laughed, parents and students alike. It didn’t matter whether they were laughing at us or with us; we were laughing together. (It was also kinda nice to put a smile on the faces of so many strangers…even if those smiles were saying ‘you are idiots.’)

The craziest memory? Well… how about the time I accidentally ran into Chris’ mum whilst wearing his (clean) underwear (and the most garish pair he had!) on my head? He had dared me to go and see his parents whilst wearing them… I pretended to take him up on the dare, opening the door and taking a few short footsteps forwards, venturing into the corridor…Only to bump into his mum!!!! We didn’t realise she was upstairs! She actually called his dad over. His parents found it as hilarious as we did.

Taking the time to be a little less serious is refreshing, liberating, uplifting - it can even be inspiring. When I’ve felt down in the past, when I haven’t known who to turn to, I’ve made myself smile just by doing the wacky things I’m usually far too nervous to do, like dancing enthusiastically to Owl City’s Fireflies! I will continue to be, as a very good friend recently put it, a ‘goofball.’
