Worn Out Memory Card
I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this thread but here goes.
The other day I just felt like playing FFXII for some reason. I tried to load my(almost perfected) file and... it said there was no memory card. I tried over and over again but it just wouldn't work so I took it to Currys(British electrical store for those who don't know) and they said it was too old and had worn out.
Soooooooooo that's my FFXII file and millions of other games files gone. The thing is though, some of my PS1 memory cards still work and they're almost 10 years old! Anyway getting back to the point, I was wondering if anyone had any opinions if I should play FFXII again and all my other games again or should I move on to others? At least I know I've completed them(in my own memory). Has anyone else had a similar experiance?

Wow. Sorry that it happened. So far, I never had this experience but I sure as heck would be super mad if my Final Fantasy XII data or other games' data was erased. Since you almost beat the game, I think you should move on to other games.

I agree. Unless you just want to do it again, move on.
Old, he says? Hrmm...I think maybe it was a malfunction within your memory card more so than it being too old.

Push the memory card in a little bit, but not all the way. Might work.

My PS2 had a similar problem before... Did that and the memory card worked fine.

I reccommend taking out you gun and shooting whoever told you that in the foot.
A memory card 'wearing out'? The hell? Do you know how much bullshit had to have been in his cereal for him to think that? Jesus, I've had all my PS1 memory cards for at ten years (maybe more) because I remember it was my first memory card, along with the other PS1 memory card I got, both of them were purchased the year the PS1 came out (anyone care to remember how long ago that was?).
And my PS2 memory cards are fine. Both of them were also purchased the year the PS2 came out.
The dude at this store is trying to scam you into buying another one, but I guess you have no choice, as you card doesn't work.
As for whats wrong, my friend has had this happen to him. You shouldn't have the card in fully. Have the "Load Game" screen up, where it lets you select what memory card slot you want to choose from (or whatever). Then just start SLOWLY shuffling out the memory card outwards until the "Slot One" on your TV screen highlights, or whatever, to signal that there is a card in there. Should work fine, theres nothing wrong with your memory card.

I had the same problem with my ps1 memory cards, and this method worked as he described it. Good luck finishing FFXII now.
