There could be multiple causes for this.

It's going to depend on what's happening when you try to power on your laptop. Does anything at all happen...lights flash, hear it trying to start up? If it powers on, do you reach a screen that displays an error message?

If absolutely nothing happens when you power it on, the first thing I would do is test to see if the AC adapter is working especially if it was plugged directly into a wall outlet and not a surge protector when the power outage occurred. However to do this you would need a voltmeter or plug it into something else compatible with it, if possible. It could also be a power connector problem, motherboard failure, power supply problem, etc.

Another possibility is hard drive corruption from Windows shutting down unexpectedly and improperly, but this would be more consistent with the laptop powering on but not booting to Windows. One thing to keep in mind is hard drive corruption does not automatically mean all data has been lost.

I went to a friend today he works with Computers and he knows a lot about it,he told me that he must make a Format, and he strongly believes that everything is lost.

While Vista probably isn't the main cause for this, I have seen on many tech forums. I personally think it is the fact that vista uses soooo much memory usage. Plus the fact that laptops overheat so easy.

As mentioned before I think that you should always burn important items on your computer to discs or some other kind of storage.

Vista will be good in 2 years. I just got a new kick ass computer, and of course it had to come with Vista. Don't get me started on all the problems i've been having with Vista. I had issues with Trillian, installing warcraft, etc. The worst problem I've had was getting both of my graphic cards to work with ATI Crossfire. I've had a couple of my friends check it out and said it wasn't working because of vista.

I have zero interest in Vista.

OS: X Leopard for Macs looks incredible, and Macs really do work perfectly. The whole compatability thing isn't as bad as you'd expect.

But that really sucks that you probably lost everything. Just the thought of a computer blacking out scares the hell outta me, because I always get blamed and yelled at in my house. I thought it was the end of my life when the family computer's C-Drive failed.

Good luck with recovering your files! Check to make sure that nothing is recoverable before formatting!

Yes, I agree. I don't mean to be a jerk, but since I use a computer all day, every day, for my work, the number one lesson that I have learned, is that it is an act of insanity to install a brand new OS before at least Service Pack 01, and even safer to wait until SP02. (i.e. - the XP experience) There are no performance gains that outweight stability and computing status quo.

I'm sorry for your loss, but hope that you will learn well. Don't be afraid to try Vista, once it's proven. As of right now, it's just the "latest thing". It will get better, but I'm letting others be the live beta testers, for now.
