Having Grandparents

Any of you have grandparnets that are still alive? If so, how often do you see them? How close are you with your grandparents?

I never really had grandparents. On my father side, his mother died before I was born, and his father died when I was about one year old. I only saw my mothers parents once when I was ten years old. They lived in Chile. I didn't not get to see them often because plane tickes are expensive. My mothers parents died a few years later after I visit them. The closet person who was ever a grandmother-like was my neighbor. She was a old lady who didn't have childern so she treated me as if I were her actual grandchild. My neighbor use to come see at school events and would come over to celebrate my birthday. Unforently she died when I was 12.

I feel akward when I talk to people such as my boyfriend who have grandparents that are alive. My boyfriend would tell me how is grandparents are like. He told me his grandmother would make large meals for the whole family on Thanksgiving and on Christmas eve. I'm a little jelous to be honest. I wish I had a grandmother such as the one he has. His grandmother right now might not live any longer. When she dies her husband will commit suicide. My boyfriend has been a little worried lately about his grandmother. I don't know to say....I can't really relate to him...

Well, on my Mother's side: My Grandmother died before I was born with lung cancer, and my Grandfather doesn't really speak to me anymore because he used to send me money for my birthday and Christmas, but I never called to thank him, and well, he just quit sharing. I never really saw him too much anyway, and the fact that he's a hardcore conservative doesn't help.

On my Fathers side: My fathers parents are Russian, but they live in Canada. My Grandfather just died at the age of 104, and my Grandmother is still chillin out there, I never speak to her at all.

So all in all, I'm not very close with any of my family members except for the ones that I'm directly related too.

I have grandparents. And you are so right about grandmother cooking huuuuge meals. That's like their equivalent of Yuna's aeon summoning.

They are quite nice to me but sometimes can be quite annoying. They like/respect "old things". Here are some examples: I listen to my Nightwish music and they say something like: "What is this crap?". And when I play on my PC... again...."What is this crap?? What's so enjoyable about it??" and the list may go on. And the most annoying part is that when their children(along with grandchildren) move away in their own home, they try to replace them with a pet( or plural...pets). And at my grandparents this turned to be quite the fanaticism....they love that damn dog more than me.

Anyway...looks like I've brought up more bad parts than good ones. They've been quite annoying lately so I think it's quite understandable.

I'm short one grandparent due to colon cancer

and the remaining three are not long for this world.

I'm going to miss them terribly. It'll be so tough to see them pass on.

Both of my grandads past away in 2001 and 2003. I rarely see the grandmother from my mothers side. I think I have seen her maybe once this year, if at all. I've always been told that she isn't too fond of us (Although even my dad will admit that my grandad on my mothers side loved us). She also lives on the other side of the district and it is quite a walk to get there.

My grandmother on my dad side I talk to a lot. She's a laugh. She only lives around the corner from me and because I just live with my 2 elder brothers she sometimes helps us clean the place up. I am not long back from my grandmothers as I was asking her if she would clean my work shirts.

I adore my grandmother, she is my rock and the most important person in my life. She raised me mainly as my mum was a single mother and was working at the time to keep me and her going. We are very much alike and love the same things, TV, bags, books. etc. We bound so well and she has treated me better then her other grandchildren. Im the eldest and have my own room there. Im so-so with her husband. My grandfather was lovely before the stroke about 11 years ago. But since then he has turned on people and mental abuses me. He did the same to his own children as they grew up and they all left home ASAP due to this. Im moving back there soon, so i'll be off line soon. Im also going to go shopping with my grandmother in an hour before my job interview!

As for my dads parents, sadly theyre both gone. His mum died when he was only 9 and that made his 15 year old brother commit suicide and I only knew last year I had an deceased uncle. His dad passed away afew days after I was born and Ive only seen 1 photo of us two together. My mum and grandmother said he was a wdonerful man and was beyond over the moon when I was born.

Unfortunately all my grand parents died when I was very young, I can still remember little things about them.

Both of my parent's parents are still alive. My grandparents on my father's side are friggin old. G-pa is about 85 and G-ma is about 80. My brother and I check up on them almost everyday to make sure they are still well.

The grandparents on my mother's side aren't as old. I think g-pa is about 70 and g-ma is about 70. I haven't seen either of them in almost 7 or more years. Last time I saw g-pa was for my high school grad-e-ation. It's been even longer since I've seen my g-ma.

My grandparents on my mother's side are still alive. I see them quite often. Every couple of weeks, I'll just go over to their house and visit (they live across town). My grandfather always tells stories about his childhood (most are exaggerated) and other things that have happened in his life. I grew up mostly in the midwest and my grandparents have lived in the south their whole life so they have some very colorful sayings. It's always fun to visit them.

My grandparents on my father's side have both passed. My grandmother died about 10 years ago and my grandfather died last week. I also had a great aunt on my father's side and we used to spend time at her house in Connecticut during the summer. I didn't get to spend as much time with my father's family after my parents divorced and it's kind of sad because most of them are dead.

I have never really known my grandmothers. They died when I was young. One of my granddads died when I was young too, so I can barely remember him. And my other granddad has Alsymers, and is in a home pretty far away from us. So we don't get to see him much, and he dosnt even remember who we are...
