Angry Whats the point?

Whats the point of driving? Seriously!? I mean when your learning all that happens is that you get subjected to immense amounts of pressure, have to jump through an almost infinite amount of hoops, tests etc, endure the countless failures and mistakes and for what!? To be able to yell incoherently at pedestrians and other road users? Or to be stuck in a traffic jam for 3 hours!?

On top of all this cars pollutes the world to an extent that the air may not be breathable in a hundred years? So what I would like to know what are your motivations for driving? What is so attractive about driving that you endure endless struggle and horrible torture in order to learn and pass?

Ugh, I really need to learn how to drive because it's just so practical to be able to go where I want when I feel like it, but the hassle of learning when I know I'l fail just puts me off

Id certainly be able to see my friends and family alot more instead of relying on unreliable buses and paying through the nose for taxis

I was thinking about getting back into the lessons again this year actually. Can't see it goig all that well though

Ironically enough: convenience. Being able to drive is particularly handy, and multiple examples spring immediately to mind. Another ironic factor is laziness; especially in my case. Rather than getting up 30 minutes earlier and walk to work, I stay in bed for a little while longer and drive in.

It's just such a huge time saver. By driving, I can make my 45 minute walk to university a 10 minute journey instead. Half an hour to work is only about 10 minutes, too.
Plus, I find driving very relaxing. I like to just go out onto open country roads and simply drive. It helps clear my mind quite well, I find.

I don't drive yet, but uh, I would like to think that people drive in order to get to places (and I'm talking about hundreds of miles). That's really the main reason why...

Sure there's the air pollution that we have to worry, but...that's such a trivial matter compared to the fact that everyone has places to go and driving is usually the solution. Then there's the whole water-fueled cars situation. You never know...maybe later in the future, all vehicles may just be running on water and not gas. But that's really wistful thinking on my part. xD

The answer's pretty obvious. People drive to get from one place to the other in a short amount of time.

You make it sound a LOT worse than it actually is. I didn't even read the rulebook and I passed the written test. It's all common sense basically and when if you just pay attention to who is driving you places at a young age, you'll get it down pretty easily. And if you CAN'T pass the road test then you shouldn't be on the road at all. We already have a huge number of douchebag kids that think their hardcore because they got their drivers license and still drive like morons. We don't need any more people that can't even park for christ sake.

Now, it sounds like you're describing driving in a busy city or something along those lines. If I'm ever in a big city I take public transportation. But I live in a suburban place where there isn't that much traffic and if that's the case, I'd rather drive for about 5 minutes to the closest Safeway then walk for 30 minutes.

I think it's more of a hassle to get people to drive you everywhere over driving yourself places and experiencing the transition to adulthood with having your own car.

Yep, that's all there is to it, and when you stay out late instead of taking a taxi, cause there are no more buses, you have a car. It's really handy in tight situations.

Umm... It's so I can get to point A to point B. I can't walk anywhere where I live. Although I live close to two large supermarkets it takes five minutes to drive there, and it would take probably an hour to walk there. It's not that I'm lazy. Sidewalks don't exist in the area I live. (Well in city areas yes.) It's just trees, houses, and shopping centers.

No offense... That's was a silly question. People need to drive to get to work, school, family, hospitals, supermarkets, mall, etc etc etc.

I could careless if my car pollutes to be honest. By the time we're having an issue with air pollution there probably won't be cars that use gas. Also scientist will probably find a way because of our advance in technology.
