It's not a silly question I don't think. I'd much prefer public transport - you pay a little bus fair every week, cars don't go in your lane, you get stuck in traffic less then cars do, buses get into less accidents.

Yeah, I can see where people are coming from, and how they need cars for work, that's all cool. But, if I can get from A to B without having a car, and I can walk distances, then I will take that opportunity.

Where I live I cannot take buses from where I live. There are buses around here but only to city areas. Not only that trains are expensive here. (Amtrak sucks cock!) Also once you go away from high populated areas everything is spread out. You won't be able to reach the next without driving for 30 minutes to an hour. Americans depend on car travel A LOT.

Looks like somebody keeps failing his drivers test. Jesus, it's not that hard. You learn to drive the speed limit, stop at lights and stop signs, use your turn signals, merge lanes, and depending on the school they might even *gasp* teach you to parallel park (which I learned on my own, thank you very much)!

The point of driving is simple: transportation.

Oh cry me a bloody river. Factories do just as much, and what do you care? You won't be alive 100 years from now. The attractiveness about driving is that you can go places when you need or want to. For example, tonight my mom was making yet another crappy health food dinner. I didn't want it, so I hopped in my car and drove 5 minutes to Jack in the Box. I wouldn't be able to do that if I didn't have a car, and I sure as hell wouldn't be able to go to my community college if I didn't have a car.

You seem to forget that lots of places don't HAVE public transportation. And public transportation isn't all flowers and roses, either. It can be dirty, unsafe, and in major cities it'll cost you almost as much as gas for a car. My city just recently got public transportation, but it's still in it's early stages and there aren't alot of bus stops. Everything is so spread out around here that it's nigh impossible to get anywhere on a bicycle or on feet, unless you want to leave three hours before you have to be at work.

Cars can get me where I'd need to go. Here in north-east America, there are WAY too many hills than I'd like. I tried walking to a store once...I nearly died of exhaustion. So the best answer: driving!

Ok first things first...I have passed my theory test and am 6 weeks away from my practical test. Therefore I don't keep failing it.

Secondly I know all my maneuvers such as reversing around a corner, parallel parking, reverse parking, and the 3 point turn.

Thirdly it may come as a surprise to you that not EVERY person finds driving as easy as you do, and not everyone is some kind of *PERFECT* being that cant possibly make a mistake.

Also there is such a thing as not making a bad situation worse, you cant just assume that Scientist's are god and are going to come up with some kind of miracle machine that wont pollute the earth at all.

Also it may be true that WE wont be here in a 100 years but your CHILDREN might and your GRANDCHILDREN most definitely will be. Remember the world we make today is the world THEY have to live in tomorrow.

Yeah Right. I wish people would stop overstating the possible effects of global warming, the Earth will be fine.

Also I'll give you a little lesson mmkay?
Cars are installed with catalytic converters, what they do is change most of the CO2 and CO coming out of a car's exhaust into water vapour. Sure some still comes out, but rather small amounts. So there is no need to go out and buy Toyota Prius because cars are destroying the enviroment because they are inherently evil, and no doubt they were created by Satan.

Also factories have a limit to the amount they can produce yearly. Which is still more than a car would do in 100 years. Also factories can pay to increase the amount they can pollute, unless they are in a certain area.

Furthermore You've totally avoided responding to the practicality of cars. Sure you can in some places use public transport. However it is not always a realistic option. Also you lose your indepence by having to rely on public transport. I have to travel over 100kms each day to get to school, which would be impossible for me to do without a car.

I find driving easy because I've been doing it for 4 years. You can't expect to do great at driving when you're new at it and then throw a massive fit about it saying its pointless and all it lets you do is sit in traffic jams.

Are you that ignorant? What the hell do you think emissions tests are for on cars, or MUFFLERS? There ARE regulations on how much pollution a car is allowed to emit before it can't be driven legally. Not to mention we have things called HYBRIDS now, which cut down on pollution. And as gas prices go up, people are choosing hybrid cars and other smaller-sized vehicles that produce less pollutants.

The point of driving is to get around. Public transportation is great and all, but you go through too many stops before it gets to yours, and to be honest, you'd be spending almost hours more per month riding the bus or train than you would if you drove.

It takes a freaking 3 hour trip by train with multiple switches plus a trip by bus after that to get to UCSD, which is close to where I'll be attending school. Driving? 1 hour.

I get really frustrated not being able to drive, especially like on Sundays and bank holidays. Yeah it's expensive and adds to pollution.....but to be honest, Im not all that fussed

Id rather have the convienience of being able to get to see my family in about 15 minutes half an hour than an hour and a bloody half

Oh and Iv lost track of how many times I was late for work because of the stupid goddam publi transport. And it sodding sucked having to get out of bed so bloody early. It took me almost an hour to get there. If I had a car I could have had such an epic lie in. I might not have even quit but I got so pissed off with how shite it was and all the travelling and having to get Ellie to and from nursery every day realy began to grate on me
