Writing Contest - Spring 2008: Voting
Hello! FFF is holding a writing contest this spring! Mitsuki and I will be hosting it so if you have an questions please feel free to ask us!
We are giving you two options for this writing contest. You may vote for one. The idea that wins the most votes will be the challenge for you to write about!
#1
Re-write an ending of any Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts games. Write about how you thought the ending should have ended. (You may start right before you encounter the final boss or after you defeat the final boss.)
#2
Write a plot summary for the next Kingdom Hearts or Final Fantasy as if you were pitching your idea to Square Enix. You must only write a prequel or sequel to any existing Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts game that is out. (No XIII, Versus, Agito, 358/2 Days, Birth By Sleep, or Coded.)
>>>>POLL WILL CLOSE ON MAY 7TH<<<<
Note:
- You'll be writing at least 3 pages and you may write up to 6 pages.
- Needs to be in 12 front, and typed in a legible front such as Verdana, Arial, Times New Roman etc.
- Grammar and spelling is advised.
- Graphic violence is allowed, cursing is fine, and no sexually explicit content. (Romance between people is fine, but you don't need to type out a rape or sex scene.)
- No plagiarizing!
Prizes:
(Currently being discussed and confirmed.)
Due Date:
Possibly June 1st.

I like #1, personally. The whole "write a new plot" thing is overdone. Concentrating on the final boss battle/ending seems like it'd be a bit more fun to write about.

Going with #1 here, it seems more fun. Plus I detest the plot of Kingdom Hearts and if I were to pitch a FF plot it would need uber 1337 flying and androgynous men galore.

Number 1. I'm assuming it could be just like the last writing contest where we had to write a narrative of any scene from an FF?

OK, do you have to enter to vote or is just open to everyone to vote for?..because I would consider entering but its an impossibility.
Anyway, I'm going to vote for #1 because I've always thought trying to write an ending/conclusion is one of the hardest things to do in writing, therefore, making it more challenging and needs more skill/fluency in writing.

Well, you can write it how you want such as script, encyclopedia entry, first person narrative, third, whatever. It's your interpretation, whatever you think a certain game should have ended.

Sure, if you think you may want to enter then go ahead.
If you don't want to enter at all, then don't vote.

I've also gone for number 1 - coming up with plot ideas has never been my strength. Altering the story, however, seems more manageable.

Same. I'm for #1.
But I have a question: What if we kept the original ENDING the same, but went about it differently. For example, I've had the idea of re-writing the final battles for KH, but with the same eventual ending: they end up in the Realm of Darkness and get back home through the Door to Light.
Would something like that be alright, or do we have to re-write the entire thing utterly?

Well, you are to write how you thought the ending should have ended. So if you think that the ending should be kept the same and want to write about it in a different point-of-view, then I'd say that should be fine. But bear in mind, we are looking for creativity, so you may want to change a few things here and there. It would be advisable that you don't stick to the original ending because it doesn't show much thinking process (pertaining to creativity) on your part. Get the gist?
