It's Classic now...

I have to wonder. Back then Sega consoles weren't treated very well. I should know. Mine was put through so much abuse since I was maybe only 5 or 6. Controllers were thrown catriges smashed in the wrong way in rage. And when you didn't like something what happened? You got it, it went flying across the room.

And did you ever try that old trick of blowing into the cartridge to get it to work? Only now have I found that's not a very good thing to do and probably made it worse.

Just last week I remembered this cool game I use to play on it called Ecco and decided to bring it out of the basement after several years of isolation. But all I found was the console itself. :( No controllers or games.

After all this time, if I had known it would be that important and priceless I don't think I ever would of treated it that way. Or let my parents sell the games.

What are some of your stories about the console? How many things did you break with flying pieces of it when in rage?

I think many were broken mainly because of the difficulity of those games, konami and capcom made many games for those consoles, that were EXTREMELY HARD!! you would just break stuff and call the console gay because the game was too hard...

Yeah, play any rpg made for Genesis or Master System. Some of those were virtually impossible. I never did take my anger out on the console or the controllers, but I did punch many couches and pillows. I remember one of the rpg's I bought for the Genesis came with the strategy guide because the company was getting complaints that the game was unbeatable.

Also Mevv, is Ecco the game where you are the dolphin?

Many of those shooters were also hard, it's impossible to beat without using cheats, game genie, gameshark etc...

You know thos little purple sweets you get in pick'n'mix? (there were two types actually, the purple and the multi-coloured. I liked the colured ones)well I had one of them and realised I hated it, then I proceded to put one into the cartrige slot on my Master System. Ended up jamming the poor thing and it never worked after :( mind I was really young back then. couple of years later I managed to get over it by getting a Playstation with Crash Bandicoot

Yeah. Those old games were too tough to beat. I remember I used cheat codes to get towards the end and still didn't get past the last level. Too many glitches. It was the most fustrating console I've ever had. I don't think the old Nintendo was that bad.

Migod I remember Ecco! That game was impossible! *laughs* As Lassic said, just swimming around being lost.

I didn't know about the blowing-on-the-cartridge thing though. I did that all the time :anime:

However, the controller would certainly feel my wrath if I got frustrated. Poor thing. Magically it still works and we haven't had to replace it.

Has anyone played Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine? The first Streets of Rage was always one of my favourites as well.
