Overrated!

Sooo, just out of curiosity....who do you personally think is a very overrated author? Why? What was the most overrated book you've ever read?

I know mine! Ernest Hemingway! His writing is so simple and childish. His books consist of people drinking, fighting, and screwing. That's it. Also (and I know people are totally going to disagree) I think that Stephen King is overrated. I really like his short story collection "Everything's Eventual" but his longer novels are soooooo.....bland. He takes FOREVER to get to the plot/point. I know atmosphere and character development are important but COME ON. And in his longer novels, I don't think his writing is particularly good.

Most overrated book I read: Waiting for Godot. Technically not a book, but sweet Jesus, I wanted to shoot myself about half way through.

I agree, I've had to read a couple of his short stories and I couldn't understand why he was so damn popular. My English teacher kept going on and on about him. He read his biography in class as well.

Oh! Grrr I hate the Da vinci code! It's too overrated. It started so many darn conspiracies and having many people in believing that the book was actually true. Grrr, I can't believe they made a movie and a video game.

Thank you! I seriously thought I was the only one who thought this. I've tried to read many of his novels but it really does take forever for things to finally get going. I've read his short story collection "Night Shift" and I enjoyed it. But his novels are very very bland for the most part.

As for other overrated authors...I really think Charles Dickens is overrated. His books are so incredibly dull.
