Has anyone else heard of him?
He's this AMAZING Japanese author, seriously his novels are so brilliant but depressing lol! Got me into reading again.. I've passed one of his books, Norwegian Wood, onto like 3 people and every one of them loved it.
Apparantly it made him that famous in Japan that he had to flee the country.
So am I a lone fan or what?

Go read it.

I really want to read that book! I've flipped through it in the book shops, but I don't know if my mum has it or not. She has many books by him so it's hard to say. You reminded me. I must ask her later! It was only yesterday that I picked it up in the shop (for the second time).

Haha well if she has it and if you read it you'll be hooked! I've read like.. 6 of his books since February. All of my friends got me one each for my birthday

Holy crap! I love him! Norwegian Wood was the first book of his that I read. I've read several of his books by now....my favorite has been "The Wind-up Bird Chronicles." I'd say Norwegian Wood was the most normal of his books. The others have a surreal, Kafka-esqe quality to them. It's one of the things I love most about him

That and his awesome characters.

Yeahh I think after Norwegian Wood, one of my other favourites is a Wild Sheep Chase!
It's irritating that his novels never really end normally... but you actually end up appreciating it when you look back ;D
I still have a few more to buy, Wind-up Bird Chronicles being one of them, but I've heard it's meant to be really good too!

He is an awesome writer. His short stories are constantly in "The New Yorker." All of his books, obviously, have different plots. Norwegian Wood was, from the books that I've read, the most normal of his books. It didn't really have any supernatural elements like his other books. But in all of his books you can count on strange occurrences, and even stranger characters with bizarre personality quirks. His characters are definitely his strong point.

Anyway, except for Norwegian Wood (and maybe a couple of other books, I'm not sure), you can count on very surreal and supernatural plot elements.
