People have problems. To the tell truth, I would of approached the man and asked why he was taking pictures (No, not hit him, for all I know, he might not have deserved it). It is completely out of the ordinary though. If he didn't know the girl, then why would he wanna take pictures of her?
People nowadays... ¬_¬

im really glad you watched the guy.......if it had been me i would have confronted him...pedophiles are the lowest of the low
a similar experience happened to me in the 3rd grade...it was recess and a buddy and i were making cheesy poses for the shit of it....when suddenly we see this flash...we look over and behind the fence in the alley is this lady...she smiles at us and walks off.....believe me, we ran as fast our legs could take us to the supervisor. She then went in pursuit of her but never found her.

Yes, she was young, and he was old(er). And yes, he was taking pictures of this girl, and it didn't seem as though they knew each other. And yes, it's extremely odd, but that doesn't make him a paedofile. Let's try to avoid jumping to conclusions.
Were there any words exchanged between these two? I'm assuming not, as you didn't mention there were.
It is an odd/uncomfortable situation with all that's said, especially considering he didn't follow her. Now, it would have been a horrible situation had he followed her... but him not following her shows that they clearly didn't know one another.
It's really unfair to start saying, as if you confidently know, that he's a pedophile, that he's 'sick' and such... Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not sitting here saying he isn't either, but there are too few facts, and too many possibilities here to come to any sort of conclusion.

Also, how is that sickening? He could of had the most innocent reasons for taking the photos. Wouldn't it be "wrong in so many ways" had he been taking the photos for kinky reasons? Not the other way around?
I'm glad you kept an eye on the young girl to ensure that his man didn't follow her, SaShman. Hopefully, none of the negative thoughts resulting in this situation are true. I also hope he didn't have any sinister intentions behind taking those photos.

=) This discussion raises an interesting philosophical debate:
Is the action what should be judged, or the intent behind the action?
If you are judging the intent, then you are presuming to understand how and what someone is thinking... Which is a dangerous road to go down.
The way i see it, keeping an eye on the situation was the right thing to do. This idea of punishing people for looking at pictures, or taking pictures in public places, bothers me a little.
So long as the person in question is not *paying* for the pictures, then the crime is essentially victimless. The pictures would exist without them, and they in no way are helping to continue the taking of them.
As for taking pictures - I don't necessarily see the harm in that. If the guy in question chooses to use them for "kinky" purposes, fair enough, he's in his own home, and he's only seeing what everyone on that street saw in any case. Taking pictures in a private place (someones home etc) I disagree with, because everyone has a right to privacy.
Taking pictures in public, for whatever reason he wants, is fair enough to me. The media has definetely overstated this whole "pedophilia" issue, to the point where we are jumping on people for their thoughts, and actiosn which affect no one but themselves.
Discuss =P, but please keep an open mind here. This is a forum for debate, challenging the accepted order of things is important, no matter how "wrong" it may seem.

It is not right to take a picture of a person without their permission so whatever it is that the man was doing it is wrong.
Also, how far apart was the girl and the man standing? I mean, if I was the girl I would've obviousely noticed somebody pointing a camera at me.
It's strange, are you sure they weren't together?

The man was a few meters away from her and yes I'm quite sure they didn't know each other, they didn't talk to each other and they didn't walk off together.

That's why I didn't confront him then and there and waited to see if he would follow her.

technically people take pictures of you hundreds of times a day. It's called CCTV, and it's actually perfectly legal. So long as someone is in a place where they may be watched by CCTV, then you can take a picture of them =)

^ Or in short, Public areas. Its illegal to take photos of people in Private areas; you can't take a shot of someone if they're standing in a shop or something. That at least applies to most countries.
