Overcoming Shyness
How do you overcome shyness?
I personally find it hard to overcome because I am pretty shy myself. I find it hard to get out of my shell to talk to people that I would like to talk to but really can't because of this little quirk. Urk.
Now, before you bash me for this, let me tell you that I do try, just not try enough, because either I don't feel I have too much support, or because I was just too lazy, which is just plain unacceptable.
Discuss the ways (many, I'm hoping ) that one can do to help get oneself out of this. You can't really be shy forever, because that's when you fail.

When i was younger i was very shy i had difficulty openly speaking to some1 who wasnt a good mate.
But being shy was something that just faded with time, the older i got the more my confidence grew.
Like now i feel comfortable speaking to people whoever they are even complete randoms.
Chances are youl grow out of it

I was pretty shy when i was younger... I am a little shy now but I do feel comfortable speaking to just about anyone. Maybe I'm not shy, I'm just not cocky
^Just like lagunas said, you might grow out of it.

You know, I was shy too. For me, it took taking a job in a bingo hall when I was 18, it was terrifying, checking claims in frount of 800 people but after a couple of weeks you realise that its not 800 people, its 800 individuals. Not sure if that makes sense to you guys but it was a great boost to my self confidence.

I was really shy when I was younger, and then I deliberately overcompensated by being extremely familiar, almost to the point of being obnoxious. Not sure which one was better. Shyness is just something you overcome with experience. Just try to make friends and you'll do fine.
Most people are shy on some level. Best illustration is how you can have a ton of people in a long line at a store or be in an elevator and everyone avoids eye contact. This even happens when I go to bookstores and find people browsing the same shelves I am (Meaning we obviously have similar interests) Still no one talks to each other.

The best cure for shyness? Easy. Get a job. Particularly retail jobs where you have to deal with all sorts of customers. Shy or not, if you encounter jackass customers, your temper will surely come close to exploding.
Then your shyness shall disappear. Hey, it worked for me. I'm more confident now, I guess. I can talk to people easily and speak my mind out just like that. I'm not saying I'm totally like "out there"...but it's a great improvement.

Well, I guess people have inbuilt guards. For example, if I was browsing the same shelf as Vagabond I wouldnt dream of saying hi, no disrespect to him, but you know, he might think im after him.
And visa versa, there really is no answer. But when I was at UNI, I lived in an Asian community and everybody shook each others hands and chatted in the street. Thats somthing we in the west just don't do. And I think thats a shame.

Oh noes!
All the same I'm trying to make more of an effort to talk to people wherever I go. They can think what they want.

Gahhh! I'm still extremely shy in public. I too scared to ask anyone anything or look at people. I can go up to a counter and ask someone where is whatever, or if they have still ___ item, but I still feel awkward. It's just I'm afraid of rude people and myself for snapping out.
Getting a retail Job helped a bit with my shyness but it also made me dislike people a lot more.
