Coming in 2nd (Close but no cigar)
Ever had the experience of coming a close second, and then the moments afterward, you blame yourself for not exerting enough effort in order to snatch that coveted first place?
It's happened to me a couple of times, once individually, and countless times over the past 3 years in academic team. I usually felt angry, subdued, and frustrated right after the matches, but in the least I try to control my temper, which is incredibly hard to do, but in the end, I end up accepting it so that I could 'fight' another day.
But the thing is, the frustration part is the thing that gets you most hung over, you know?
You'll probably have to relive all the events that happened on that fateful day, and it's incredibly tough to show face in that situation, especially if you knew, you absolutely knew that you could have won, so there, the question arises, you could have.
So many things that you could have done to avoid losing.
I'm incredibly competitive and I just can't stand coming in second, or coming close, because that really doesn't cut it for me.

i got 1 mark off an A in History. which gave me the 2nd highest score in the class. i was kicking myself because i know if i revised a little bit more and pushed just that little bit harder i could have got that A, and kept my rep as higest scoring in history XP

Anyways, yeah, that must've been frustrating, and were you really close to that first placer guy in terms of score, 'cause the closer you get, I find the more frustrating it is for people to get over.
I mean, it's like racing horses, those neck and neck things are pretty exciting if you're spectating but if you're actually racing, then it's not so fun...especially if you're at the losing end of it.

In terms of competitions like chess tournaments, sports and strategic games, I have this tendency of hating defeat due to my high level of competitiveness.
Sure one must learn that you must accept defeat but that doesn't mean I'll gladly accept it.
As for grades...
Actually I never mind being the best in class since I am always among the best. I've always said that grades don't prove your intelligence, that only your actions and the way you make your own decisions are the only way to prove how intelligent you are.
Because, what's the use of getting "A's" if you behave like a moron? None if you ask me.
I would rather have someone who knows how to make good decisions and how to do an excellent job than someone with high grades who is actually useless outside the academic area...
I am saying this because I know a lot of "fake" intelligent dudes (mostly from my school) who think they are highly intelligent because the have excellent grades. The heck I have better grades than them and don't actually give a damn (pardon my language).
For me they are a bunch of ignorants blinded by their own selfish and false reflection of someone they think is a "winner".

Yeah i sorta know what u mean.
In sports paticularly. I was in a swimming club for years, did tournaments and stuff and i never won a single gold medal i always came second or third, but it was a good thing i guess as it pushed me to go harder each time, i trained harder so i could get a gold medal.
lol although i never got that gold medal,
i wasnt angry at myself i did my best and the fact was that there were others better than me.

Hrm....well, sports and other games tick me off when i lose. Like when in the war against the MPA...i think that we were so close to winning, but we were so outnumbered, and we ended up surrendering...(tho i really didn't want to)...
