You dont count it? That means alot of the story is made up in your mind.

Rufus plays a semi-big role in the film.

Nah, I can’t say I was surprised to see him. I know most of them were pretty well injured in the game, but I don’t recall them actually dieing.

I was like 'huh O.o' when I saw Rufus and Tseng, I don't think Rufus would have survived taking a direct hit in the mush from Weapon and as for Tseng, well I always asumed he got squished in the temple of the ancients and I'm pretty sure Elena made a comment about him dying or something later on (altho i can't quite remember) I wish they didn't mess with things so much like with Last Order and Sephiroth JUMPING into the reactor???? wtf, ruining my impressions of the game *grumbles*

I thought Tseng had died, because he looked mortally wounded at the Temple. Then Elena says “Doing my boss in like that” at the Icicle Inn to pretty much confirm it. However apparently what Elena said is a translation error and that Tseng actually did survive. Ok that is fair enough I guess, considering the dire translation the game has, though would have preferred it if he had met his maker.
As for Rufus though, this ruined the satisfactory demise that the game had given the character. Diamond Weapon blasted the poor sod, we see him engulfed in flames! Rufus was DEAD! It was good and dramatic and now they ruined it by some half assed lucky escape that clearly didn’t happen originally. It wasn’t like Rufus was really need in AC at all any way, his part could have easily have been played by some other high ranking Shinra executive who would possibly know the whereabouts of Jenova’s head.

I wasn't surprised to see Tseng again, he's just deeply wounded but I know he'll survive. On the other hand, I was surprised to see that Rufus is still alive, I thought he was dead, but I was even more surprised to see that his hair not orange.

Funny how Nomura constantly changes the color of Rufus' hair... In FFVII, his hair was strawberry blonde, in Before Crisis, his hair was pure yellow-blonde, and in AC, his hair was a dirty-blonde color.
As for Rufus' survival; it was hinted in the First Ultimania Omega thingamabob that Rufus had survived.
Quote:
***Rufus' last moment?*** (Page 197)
Taking a direct hit from Diamond WEAPON during the story, what became of him is left a mystery. News of his death spreads to the people, but is he actually [dead]...?
(Accompanying screenshot caption)
Heidegger and the people of Kalm conclude that [Rufus] has died.

This indicates that Nomura didn't merely pull Rufus' survival in AC out of his ass. I wish that he'd given a logical explanation for Rufus' survival in AC/DoC, though.

I didn't expect Rufus, I thought he was dead, as for Tseng, he didn't die in the temple, so I didn't think he was dead, just seriously injured.
