Healing Water
I browsed through and didn't really see a topic about this...if it was already mentioned, forgive me.
So my husband and I decided to watch the movie again last night. Towards the end where Cloud and Kadaj were fighting at the church, we see a puddle of water ascend and heal Cloud's disease. Now, I've always thought that it was Aerith's doing (since she's a healer and all that), and out of the blue said out loud, "Oh, that's Aeris healing him." My husband then replied, "No, that's the planet. It healed him because it realizes that Cloud is actually trying to fight it (geostigma) and fighting for the planet too."
So which is it? =/ Aerith or the planet? And why did it happen right there and then, when Cloud and Kadaj were fighting...? I've always thought it was Aerith since she frequents that church and is clearly very special to her. But then my husband's reasons also made sense. Cloud was clearly going to give up without a fight, but he regained his inner strength towards the end.
Also, where did the water come from? It wasn't there before when Tifa and Loz fought. Did it just suddenly appear out of nowhere...?

I have a feeling that it is Aerith, because, when after the giant fight after Sephiroth (i think) Tifa says to a droplet of water (in the Highwind), something along the lines, "I knew you where there, thank you"

Yes, I noticed that too. That is why I kept thinking it was Aerith. But then again, one might say that Aerith is also associated with the planet, so it's kinda hard to tell. Perhaps both...? But see, I noticed that it only healed him at that time and place. The rest that were infected were not healed until the very end. So why decide to heal him at that time...? That is also why I'm kinda convinced it could be the planet itself, as well.
EDIT: M'kay, nevermind. It is Aerith. That was her healing spell, The Great Gospel. I forgot about that...
According to Wiki: "They confront each other and Cloud comes off worse for it until a magical blast from Kadaj destroys the flowerbed and releases an outflow of seemingly Lifestream-infused water(Aerith's Level 4 limit "Great Gospel") which heals Cloud's geostigma and proves harmful to Kadaj who flees. Cloud, compelled by Aerith's voice, pursues him to the derelict remains of Shinra Headquarters in the center of Midgar."
So...the healing water has always been there...? Well that kinda makes sense. So there's geostigma, a threat to most people, and everyone freaking out about it...and the cure was under the flowerbed all that time...?

Yeah, the healing water was meant to be like, a visual representation of Aeriths Great Gospel limit break, I think the fact that it was always under the flowerbed explains why flowers were able to grow in the church. As for why it didn't appear when Tifa fought Loz, well Kadaj blasted a huge hole in the floor didn't he? That gave the water something to escape out of.
In the early scripts of AC, Cloud was supposed to see like, a vision of Aerith in the water, so people knew it was her, but it was cut so they could save her face until the very end.

It makes since that it was Aerith. I mean if the planet was doing it on its own why would it choose that particular spot in the church? Thats why I thought it was Aerith. But if you think about it Aerith is one with the planet so it was really both.

I thought that it was aires' Holy, because the Materia glowed green in the game and the 'healing glow' was green as well, but that's just me...

This is what I think. When Aeris died she became part of the lifestreem which is so to say the "blood" of the planet, which means it's a part of it. So if you think about it it was both.

I thought it was the Planet finally answering another one of Aerith's prayers to aid Cloud and them...kinda like with the White Materia.
...buuuut that's just me.

Um, yeah, I had an issue with that scene. Cloud was shot in the chest several times. He gets dumped in some water, and everything is cool. Wtf? I wish Advent Children laws applied to real life.
...Also, I sort of noticed a weird little Christianity thing going on in that scene. It was like he was being baptized....
